To let you know that Out of a Hat Creations challenges have ended.

Hello Everyone who pops in today and especially to those who usually visit on Thursday to see what I have made for the  Out of a Hat Challenge. It is with a little sadness that I have to tell you we three Hatters have decided the time is right to close  our little challenge blog.  Janet   and  Sandra   are such busy ladies and have lots of other crafty projects that they are wanting to try. I have also started to join in other types of challenge blogs and I am looking forward to learning different skills along the way.  I do have a lot more leisure hours than my two fab friends but, at almost 72 years old, my brain has slowed down quite a lot so running a challenge blog isn't as easy as it was. You will have noticed that I make lots of mistakes in my posts--sorry--I even forget what day it is at times-bet you noticed that if you pop in regularly! Running a challenge blog is a wonderful experience and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it. The be...

Hello Everyone--hope your week has gone well. Here we are with another challenge at Out of a Hat Creations. The theme this time is 'A Pennant of Bunting.' I'm sure that conjures up lots of ideas and here is what I made. The bag after Chrissie treatment Bag when I rescued it at the car boot sale. I really bought it for the handles as it was only 50p. It is lovely linen and lined so I decided it was too nice to take apart. I cut out 12 triangles and made those into bunting by sewing them to some ribbon and adding sequins. Then I made some flowers just by gathering two sizes of circles and scrunching them up. A button to finish off the centres and that's it done. It now holds a lot of sewing threads that are only suitable for hand tacking etcs they break if I use them on the machine. It will save me getting them mixed up with the good stuff. Hope you visit Sam ,   Janet and Sandra to see what they have made for this challenge. I am entering this at Altered Eclectics -be...

Challenge 74 Out of a Hat

Hello to Friends and Followers and a warm welcome to Jumbled Crafts . I hope your week has gone well and that you have fitted in lots of crafting Over at Out of a Hat  we have the theme Stencils and/or Masks so please join in if you have time. I decided to make my own stencil and use it as the front of a book I have been meaning to make for a long time. Covered an A4 book with strong card and some paper I have had for a while. All you will need I made my own stencil by using a piece of plastic and a die cut shape-the die is by Joy and called Floral Flourishes. Make sure that the piece of plastic is big enough to leave a space around the shape. Cut out the shape and then use as a stencil--then you can turn the plastic over and use your brayer to make the shape again with the excess ink on the plastic. Just use an ink pad and the cut-out shape then turn the shape over and bray to leave the shape again. You also have the coloured shape to use on a card or other crafty work-all from on...

Good Morning All. At last we have some real rain and the garden looks very happy. We have already had a bumper crop of courgettes and runner beans and there seems to be lots more to come. We are growing something we have never grown before--spaghetti squashes and they look the size of pumpkins. Lots of those so I need to look for a recipe for those--anyone any ideas? Another week has flown by and it is time for a new challenge at Out of a Hat Creations.  Anyone is welcome to join in with us there and you can make anything at all that fits in with the theme.  The theme for this week is Summer Days so lots of ideas for this one. I haven't done any crocheting for a long time and don't have much idea how to do it really which means just making things up as I go along and without a pattern-too difficult to understand. This is a small sunhat so I guess it will have to be called a decoration. It is made from bits and bobs of wool as I have a bag full so plenty of choice.  Sam, ...

Hello to everyone who drops by Jumbled Crafts today. I hope you enjoy what you find here and will say hello if you have time. This time at Out of a Hat  the theme is Things beginning with B. Well I indulged my passion for beach huts and made this one from a bird house that I bought for £1 at our local store in town-it isn't a Poundland store but everything they sell is £1. original bird box. First thing to do was removed the perch and then it was painted red and left to dry. To make the stripes I used sticky tape. The door is made from card and coloured to match.- and the ring was on a wind chime from the Life Boat shop. I know the fencing looks a bit O.T.T but I have had these die cuts for ages as I got them in a swap. The decoration on the roof edge I made with some fancy scissors. Now for the difficult bit--the STEPS! I found them a nightmare to make the ones in the picture were about my sixth attempt. How difficult can it be to stick together four small pieces of card at the ...

Hello Friends and Followers where ever you may be-always great to have drop into Jumbled Crafts and I hope you have time to say hello. Just noticed that I have reached 100 followers which is a real milestone-thank you. This week at Out of a Hat Creations  we have a new guest designer for the month of August so I hope you will pop over to find our more as I am sure most of you will know her and love her many makes. The theme this week is numbers and endless ideas popped into my head. This is what I finally made as I found the clock numbers on the car boot sale for 20p-I did ask if the chap had the rest of the clock pieces but he hadn't unfortunately. Those would have kept me happy for some time on Steampunk projects I'm sure. I used part of a strong packaging box as a base and stuck a piece of Crafty Individuals paper in the middle of it. Then I stuck on the clock numbers after spritzing them with Gold Cosmic Shimmer. Next I masked the numbers and stuck all sorts of things arou...

A warm welcome all to Jumbled Crafts. Hope your day is going well and you have had a great week Time for another challenge at Out of a Hat  where the The Hatters would like to see Patch Work Patterns. It doesn't have to be anything sewn but I really needed to make this. It is a needle cushion and why I needed it is a story many of you won't believe. I always seemed to be losing needles--I would open a packet and in no time at all they had all gone. I looked carefully for each one as I was afraid they may cause a nasty accident they had dropped on a  chair or even on the floor. I decided I had a nasty, needle fairy who just took them whilst I wasn't looking. Then one day I saw just the eye of a needle sinking into a nice plump pin cushion. That's when I wondered how many more had gone the same way. I took the pin cushion apart and found many, many needles inside the stuffing. I know you will be saying ''why doesn't she use a needle case?' I know I should...

A warm welcome to everyone who pops into Jumbled Crafts and hope your day is going well. This week at Out of a Hat  the theme is 'You Hold the Key'--so that could be lots of things with lots of meanings for you to think about. I took it literally and made this This is what I made as I love to make 'garden art'. this is a close up of the flowers. If you get bored with photographs then turn away right now as there are few coming next. this is how the key holder started out-with an old hook from the car boot sale and an empty milk container. The keys were from Poundland and are quite large and heavy. I started off by giving the hanger a metal look but most of it got covered up anyway I used the TH Tattered flower dies and some other shapes for leaves and cut them out from the plastic  milk container pieces. Then I coloured them with acrylic paint and Promarkers and finished them off with several coats of varnish so that they are weatherproof. I ironed the shapes as some of...

Welcome Friends and Followers and lovely to have you pop by today. It is the busiest day on my blog as I am sure many people like to know what we are doing at The Hatters each week. We have the theme 'Let it Rain' which is quite apt as it is St Swithin's Day in the UK on the 15th and that involves rain. At first I just made a canvas then I thought it would look nice as a picture so I painted an old wooden frame in a rainy day grey colour. The little girl image is one of  Melissa Diaz digi images. I did win quite a few of them a while ago but the link where I got them doesn't work any more so maybe she doesn't do the images now. I used various other stamps. The large butterflies on the right are Chocolate Baroque the dandelion heads and leaves are Joanna Sheen and the bee is Cart Us. Hope you will pop and see what  Sandra,   Janet  and  Valerie   have made and also join in with your own take on the theme if you have time. I would also like to the link...

Challenge 67 Out of a Hat

Happy 4th of July to all of my friends in the US. Hello Everyone. Another week has flown by and it is time for this week's challenge at Out of a Hat. We have a new designer there for July so do come and meet her. This week the theme is Stars and Stripes I found a fairly large, plastic plant pot in the shed. Designed some paper from the American Flag image and printed it onto a canvas paper. Then I cover the plant pot with it. Made some big matching stars and added the red, white and blue ribbon top and bottom. It is just right to hold my everyday brushes and largest scissors. What a splash of colour it adds to the shelf. Hope you will pop and see what Sandra , Janet and Valerie have made and also join in with your own take on the theme if you have time. Love Chrissie x

Hello Friends and Followers. Hope your day goes well and that the sun is shining where you are. I feel I am so lucky to have so many people pop by and leave comments and would like to say a big thank you to all of you. This week at Out of a Hat we have the theme 'Inspired by a Song with a Flower in the Title' There are so many songs with flowers in the title it was difficult to know where to start I chose Lilac Wine by Elkie Brookes.  If you want to hear it then click on the title and listen. Heaven knows why I chose it cause it makes me cry every time I hear it as it was popular at a time in my life I would rather not remember. Good to cry sometimes and remember life wasn't always as good as it is now. Here is what I made I have had this wine bag for ages so thought I would decorate it and maybe decorate a bottle of wine to go inside it as well. I would make some lilac wine but I haven't got any lilac lol. I painted the bag with white emulsion then while it was still w...

Hello Everyone and welcome to Jumbled Crafts This week has flown by and it is time for another challenge at the Hatters. This week the theme is 'transport' so lots of scope to make anything you like that says 'transport to you' I made a hanging. I found a piece of paper with large flowers on it then splodge and splatter with my distressed stains, I highlighted and coloured the flowers on the paper as I thought they were really nice. Next I stamped the London buses, the stamps are from Personal Impressions. The gears stamp is from a set of stamps from Chocolate Baroque.  As we travel everywhere by foot, bus or train I made up the quote cause I love to watch and listen to people and you hear so many interesting stories. Have a beautiful day Tracy is still with us as June's guest designer so do pop and look at her blog and at Janet and Sandra's as well-lovely makes from all the other Hatters as always. Love Chrissie xx

Hello Dear Friends and Followers-hope you are all well. Another week has flown by and it is time for a new challenge at  Out of  a Hat Creations . This week the challenge is to make a tag book-you don't need to fill it - just the front page will be enough. This is my make and I chose the theme of hats. I changed all of the images to sepia or black and white and added hat quotes to all the tags. The front was stamped with a Crafty Individuals stamp after masking the title of the book. I then made little felt, hat charms to fasten onto the ring. I left the backs of the tags free so that they could be used for shopping lists or phone numbers or whatever the tags before I assembled them into a book. Hope you will visit Tracy , Janet and Sandra's blogs to see their makes for this challenge. Have a great day Love Chrissie xx

Hello Friends and Followers-hope you are all well and having a great crafting week This week at Out of a Hat Creations  the theme is 'Tickets Please'. What a shame that these days almost all the tickets we get are just bits of paper that pop out of a machine and only a bit off a roll at that-bring back the old tickets I say. I might not be saying that when the queue at the various places was a mile long as the desk clerk searched for the right ticket. Right back to the challenge :- This is my make and it is a pot of cream that I mixed with different oils that help sleep. I called the cream 'DREAM' and added that to one ticket and the other ticket says 'made by chrissie'. This is 'rustic' looking but I am not trying to compete with big name products--these makes are  gifts for friends The pot was a glaring pink colour and one that was in a new, mousse hair colourant  I didn't like it when I had used it and rushed to the hairdresser to put it right lol...

Hello Friends and Followers and a warm welcome to Jumbled Crafts. Another week has flown by and it is time for a new challenge at Out of a Hat Creations -hope you will join in as the theme is certainly wide open to interpretation. So you have to make a project with the theme 'Jewel in the Crown' Here is 'Wobbly Whilma' with her crown that she wore when she was chosen to be May Queen. Not very often she has her hair fastened up but the crown did look better with it this way. I call her that name because her head is always falling off the stick- nothing seems to hold polystyrene to stuff. The crown started out as simple, cardboard cut-out crown. I embossed it with a folder then embossed it with gold powder. Added some gold ribbon to it them added many other things to make it regal. Back view with the crown of the crown filled with ribbon flowers. Side view--oh no her head is wobbly on the stick again. Hope you will pop to see what Von, Sandra and Janet have made for ...

Hello Everyone who pops in to Jumbled Crafts . This is a scheduled post as I am not really around this week. Fingers crossed that it all goes well as I won't be able to fix it until Sunday if it doesn't. That's just me talking to myself as if it doesn't go right you won't see this post anyway :( This week at Out of a Hat  the challenge is to use a photograph somewhere on the project you make. This is what I made. A journal with empty pages so far. Just corrugated carboard , a couple of jigsaw pieces and some dyed lace to cover the Bind-it-all stuff. I started out with this photograph that Vic took in our garden Then I played about with it in Paint Shop Pro and ended up with this design. Oh dear it's up side down. Then it turned into a postcard before becoming part of the journal front. Do pop to see what Von , Janet and Sandra have made and hope you will say hello if you have time Hope your week is going well Chrissie x

Hello and a warm welcome to anyone who visits Jumbled Crafts. Always great to know that friends and followers are still around. Any comments are very much appreciated and always encouraging as well. Time for another challenge at Out of a Hat  where the theme for this week is EYES.  I'm afraid there are a lot of pictures in my post for this subject as I made up a game. Apologies if you fall asleep half way through. Here is the finished game in its box I started out with a set of eyes then played around with them a bit in Paint Shop Por Played around some more and came up with this--that was going to be it for my project this week until I saw the box This was the box before I strengthened the insides The outside bottom of the box has the rules of the game on it The inside of the top has the playing board The bottom inside has all the pieces you need to play the game. I fastened the packets onto the box with velcro 'buttons' The game can be played by 2 or three people. This is...
