Journal Page and Inchie
Hello Everyone. Hope you like what you find here today and thank you for calling in. Busy weekend sport watching and knitting so I am looking forward to do some 'real' crafting today.
Art Journal Journey are going 'Back to School' this month and it is hosted by Elizabeth who has some very original ideas to inspire us.
I have made a plaque of my four favourite subjects at school though writing should have been English really as my writing wasn't great and still isn't. I did win a pen when I was in the junior school. It was for my script writing but that was when we had a bit of wood with a nib and dipped it an ink pot.
Every Inchie Monday has mice as the theme for this week. You could still join in with all us there and make little pieces of art-it is such fun.
I drew the three blind mice then cut them out to stick on the inches. What a strange things to have in a nursery rhyme. I have been studying nursery rhymes this week for another challenge. I had forgotten how cruel most of them are and the history behind the majority of them is frightening. Cutting off tails with a carving knife--not a thing to teach children at all. I recall singing this with gusto in the infant school choir.

Your journal page made me happy because your favorite studies are different from mine. I loved math, phys ed, and writing, but I never got the chance to appreciate art until I got to college. I really like the plaque you created to show your wonderful aptitudes, though.
ReplyDeleteI've also noted how cruel fairy tales are. In fact, some believe the Brothers Grimm told their tales to teach lessons to children who were acting badly. I think the tale of the mice tails was beautifully done by you. Of course, so were the ears, the head, etc.!

A great piece for your favourite school subjected Chrissie, I would have to pass on the P.E. although I did like the tennis in the summer months.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the rhymes, very wrong messages in some of them, but the kids seem to enjoy them and are perhaps to young to look for hidden meanings.

Its funny I never questioned these strange words in these songs we sung - but got no nightmare from them - are they still sung or been banned?

ReplyDeleteYour three blind mice are really cute. Yes the nursery rhymes can be cruel and often weird - apparently sometimes the rhymes refer to political actions of years gone by - hundreds of years - read somewhere that the cradle in the tree top had something to do with a then 'illegitimate' baby of a high born person - over the years the meanings have morphed into something else. The London Bridge song has some odd meaning too that I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteYeah, meanings are buried in nursery rhymes. You know the one about running around a mulberry bush? The monkey chased a weasel...has to do with a tax man coming to collect the money due. Or that's what I learned somewhere along the way. The harder the subject, the better I liked it. Cute mice. Cheryl
