Inchie

Hello to a new week and to everyone who pops into Jumbled Crafts--always great to read the comments you leave-THANK YOU

This week at Every Inchie Monday the theme is OLD. I am sure this will mean lots of variety in the inchies that everyone makes for the challenge.


I chose one of the names the English use for their police force. I did try to find out the origins of the phrase but it seems that no one knows for sure as the explanations were many and varied. Strange have we have so many names for policemen-some not very nice at all. I just call them Police :)

    Love your Inchie - great idea - I have an explanation from Brewers Dictionary of Phrase and Fable to do with Old Bill being a disillusioned walrus moustached old soldier from WW1 portrayed by Captain Bruce Bairnsfather an artist and journalist. His portrayal of the Old Bill was adopted as a nickname for the Metropolitan police possibly because a lot of old servicemen were recruited by posters showing Bairnfathers Old Bill in a Special Constables uniform. Brilliant Inchie and nice to learn something - hope it helps.

    Lovely vintage policeman image, nice take on the theme, and food for thought too... who could ask for anything more?! Just been off Googling Old Bill, and am more confused that before. LIke you I'll stick with police (and not "pleece" as it now seems to be universally pronounced on the news), or at a pinch "bobbies" - I know where that's from!

    I wasn't sure whether the Old Bill was just for the Metropolitan police. I assumed it was something London-y. (No idea what though.)

    Unusual choice. Well done.

Hi All. Thank you for visiting today and I hope you like what you see here. A fine bright day but colder today so I may fit in a walk later though I had some curtains to make before I do anything else. At Tag Tuesday this week the theme is Diva. I don't always remember to show my tags for there as you need to be a member and and do your own posts on Tag Tuesday's blog. I chose Elizabeth Taylor as my Diva she was so beautiful in films but definitely a Diva in her private life.
